The Ballymun Declaration

We were delighted to welcome more than 30 participants to our webinar to present and discuss the Ballymun declaration as part of our wider VEEP (Voice Equality Experience Power) initiative. The Ballymun Declaration presents a call for a new approach to mental health, focusing on community development and rights-based principles instead of a medical-centric model. Signed by over 100 organizations, it advocates for mental health support that is deeply integrated into people's lives and communities, emphasizing collective action and the link between poverty and mental health.

In this session our speakers, Rachel Doyle from Community Work Ireland and Martha Griffin from Dublin North, North East Recovery College and lecturer in DCU, gave some background information on the Ballymun Declaration including progress since it was launched, before facilitating a discussion with all participants, who had a chance to share their thoughts on the declaration, and to give examples of good practice where action is taking place on the ground
