Event Date and Time:
15 April 2021 11.30am to 1.00pm
Location:
Zoom

CDHN is delivering a Health Literacy Training Mini-series during April for people in communities. The series will consist of five unique training sessions. Each session will explore a different topic related to Health Literacy. The overall aim of the series is to increase awareness and improve knowledge and understanding of health literacy so that:

  • People have increased confidence when using health information and services and feel better equipped to make health decisions
  • Those who support people with health and social issues have a better understanding of people’s circumstances so they can provide the most effective and appropriate advice and help.

Each session has been designed to be interactive and participative with use of breakout rooms and Zoom polls and will finish with a short insight gathering session where participants will be asked to share their experiences of using health information and making health decisions.

Depending on the participant’s role and interest, they may wish to attend only one session or a number of sessions. Please note there are limited places on each training programme and booking is essential.

In this session, participants will learn about the social determinants of health and techniques to develop health literate services and programmes. They will also explore their role in improving health literacy and how they can support people in relation to low health literacy.

Learning Outcomes

  • Increased understanding of health literacy
  • Increased awareness of your/your organisation’s role in improving health literacy
  • Increased awareness and understanding of the connection between health literacy, engagement and the social determinants of health (SDOH)
  • Able to identify tools and techniques for developing health literacy friendly services and programmes

Closes with short insight gathering session for participants to share their experiences of using health information and making health decisions.

This session has been designed for people who work/volunteer in a community setting and support people with their health and social care needs.
