Successful Group Working

BCPP projects met recently at NICVA for a session on Group Work Skills. Both pharmacists and community workers spent the day completing tasks and bringing new skills to working with the groups within their projects.

BCPP provided the pharmacists and community groups with a free training opportunity to improve skills and confidence when working with groups. It can be challenging to stand in front of a group of people to talk and facilitate discussions on a wide range of health issues so this training enabled them to deliver more interactive, participative sessions.

Benefits of the training include:

  • Taking the pressure off you having to speak for full sessions
  • Ensuring you take into account the specific needs of the group
  • Helping get groups to work together for both their benefit and your own

Some of the comments on the day included:

“Today’s training has alleviated some of my fears.  I feel more confident within myself in facilitating groups.”

“Kathy and Jenny were well prepared and able to cover every issue raised.  Friendly, approachable and interactive facilitation – excellent!”

“There was excellent shared learning through the experiences of other participants.”
