Projects that met the funding criteria, aims and objectives of Building the Community-Pharmacy Partnership (BCPP) have been funded right across Northern Ireland.

These BCPP projects cover a wide range of issues with some operating in villages and others in urban housing estates. The majority of BCPP projects work best when a local group works with a pharmacist located in the same catchment area as the group.  Some projects do seek to cover wider geographical areas.  In relation to needs, some focus on the generic needs within a community whilst others seek to focus on specific needs, such as sexual health and the needs of carers.  Needs must be identified based on locally defined needs and priorities.

Projects are intrinsically partnership initiatives, some being led by pharmacists and others by other community and voluntary agencies. Deciding who should lead the project is often based on what organisation or individual has the capacity to co-ordinate and drive the project, who has a good contact base and knows the local issues and needs, and who has a knowledge of monitoring and evaluation requirements for grant funded initiatives. The key to successful projects is both community and pharmacy partners planning the project together from the outset.  Working together in the delivery and evaluation of the project is also key. The target group eg the participants must also be key in the planning, delivery and evaluation of initiatives.
